On 3rd Asar 2081, Khwopa College of Engineering organized a gathering in the college hall to collect suggestions from local residents regarding the college's educational and administrative activities. The program was chaired by the Chairman of the College Management Committee, and the Mayor of Bhaktapur Municipality, Sunil Prajapati, attended the event.
In his address, Mayor Prajapati emphasized the importance of developing the engineering college into the best research center in the country. He highlighted the issue of many students going abroad for higher education, resulting in over 95 billion rupees leaving the country in the past ten months. He stressed the need for the government to provide quality education domestically. Mayor Prajapati recounted the establishment of Khwopa Higher Secondary School in 2056 to offer accessible quality education to the community. He also mentioned the initial suggestion of opening a private college while asking permission to run a higher educational institution by Bhaktapur Municipality. This idea was overruled to serve the community's interests. He underscored the commitment to the community, comparing it to necessary treatment for any ailment that might arise within institutions. He mentioned that people's blood and sweat had been shed during the establishment and operation of colleges. He also stated that just as a disease, if left untreated, it can turn into cancer; single selfish people can ruin institutions. Therefore, they must be treated in time.
He pointed out that we should focus on work and behavior, acknowledging that there may be shortcomings while working. He stated that criticism and self-criticism are necessary, and instead of avoiding criticism, we should continuously strive for improvement.
He mentioned that Bhaktapur Municipality, having become capable of operating a university with its resources, should be approved to establish Khwopa University, including a medical college. However, the Ministry of Finance has stalled the Khwopa University bill. He stated that Khwopa University aims to offer MBBS education for just 1.5 million rupees to serve the people. Highlighting the importance of local efforts for national and international service, he added that Bhaktapur Municipality has provided educational loans of up to 500,000 rupees at subsidized rates to financially weak students.
In the program, Rabindra Jyakhwo, a member of the college management committee and Ward 9 Chairman of Bhaktapur Municipality, mentioned that Bhaktapur Municipality has been operating various housing schemes for the convenience of the people. He stated that the Libali Planning Area has become an educational destination in Bhaktapur. Furthermore, he highlighted that Bhaktapur Municipality is running eight educational institutions to develop Bhaktapur as a center of knowledge and science, and Khwopa University is in preparation for operation.
He emphasized the need of research on services that the municipality can provide to the people and to implement the findings of such research. This emphasis is aimed at making the audience feel the college's dedication to progress and service. Stressing the importance of creative suggestions and advice from local residents for the development of the college, he called on them to provide their suggestions without hesitation.
Krishna Prasad Koju, Ward 8 Chairman and member of the College Management Committee, highlighted the importance of engineers connecting with the community and participating in development work. Principal Er. Sujan Maka discussed the invaluable contributions of Khwopa College of Engineering to the country's education sector, noting the improvement in educational quality through collective efforts. He urged regular and indirect suggestions for the college's development.
Principal Er. Sunil Duwal emphasized the rationale behind gathering local residents, highlighting their crucial role in supervising and monitoring the college. He underlined that their involvement is not just a formality, but a necessity for the college's growth. Head of the Administration Section, Sanjaya Manandhar, also spoke at the event, along with other dignitaries who provided suggestions on the college's educational and administrative aspects.
The program concluded with an open invitation for further suggestions from the local community, reinforcing the college's unwavering commitment to continuous improvement and community engagement. This reassurance is aimed at making the audience feel involved and part of the college's journey.
