Khwopa Engineering College and Khwopa College of Engineering, both run by the Bhaktapur Municipality, held a program on the 7th of Falgun 2079 to distribute scholarship funds to poor and deserving students. Chief Guest Mr. Sunil Prajapati, Mayor of Bhaktapur Municipality and Chairman of the college management committee, distributed scholarships worth 61 lakhs to students in attendance.
Mr. Prajapati commended the college for its vision to provide affordable quality education and expressed his admiration for the distribution of scholarships, which help students gain higher education opportunities. He highlighted that the Bhaktapur Municipality provides scholarships and educational loans to students studying up to Ph.D. in various subjects and that over 40 million worth of scholarships are distributed annually through various colleges.
In his speech, Mr. Prajapati emphasized the need for students to have a spirit of service to the country and the people, as well as to approach their studies with enthusiasm. He expressed the belief that democracy with economic equality is vital for Nepal's development and identified Indian interference in Nepalese politics as a hindrance to progress. He encouraged students to engage with the country's politics to bring about change.
Mr. Rabindra Jyakhwo, Ward Chairman of Bhaktapur Municipality Ward No. 9 and college management committee member, highlighted the municipality's commitment to education, with 8 colleges and 6 child care centers currently operating under its purview. He also expressed the municipality's desire to establish Khwopa University pending permission.
The Principal of Khwopa Engineering College, Er. Sujan Maka, reiterated the college's mission to provide quality engineering education at a reasonable cost at almost half the fee compared to private colleges. Khwopa College of Engineering’s Principal Er. Sunil Duwal urged students to make the most of their scholarship funds, which he said would benefit all students. He added that both the engineering colleges of Bhaktapur are achieving excellence. Er. Rabindra Phoju, Vice Principal of Khwopa Engineering College, noted that the scholarships added enthusiasm to the students, encouraged them to learn and had a positive impact on their exam results. Account Section Head Mr. Kaji Bahadur Pancha, Administration Head Mr. Sanjaya Manandhar also spoke in the program.
According to the college sources, the scholarship amount equal to 61 lakhs has been distributed, which included Rs. 32 lakh 9 hundred for the students of Khwopa Engineering College and Rs. 29 lakh 36 thousand for the students of Khwopa College of Engineering. The program serves as an excellent example of Bhaktapur Municipality's commitment to education and underscores the importance of affordable higher education opportunities for students.
