A seven-day Public Speaking training, organized for the staff of Khwopa College of Engineering, concluded on Wednesday, 11th of Asar, 2082, amid a special ceremony.
The training, which commenced on Asar 4, 2082 (June 18, 2025), focused on enhancing participants' abilities in public speaking, effective communication, and confident idea presentation. Through interactive sessions and practical exercises, the program aimed to strengthen self-confidence, enhance delivery techniques, and cultivate impactful speaking skills among attendees.
Speaking as the chief guest at the closing ceremony, Mr. Sunil Prajapati, Mayor of Bhaktapur Municipality and Chairperson of the College Management Committee, emphasized the importance of alignment between a speaker’s thoughts, words, and actions. He remarked, “A speaker must act in accordance with their words. Ethics and integrity are essential qualities of an effective communicator.”
He also commented on the declining moral standards among leaders in the current political landscape, citing examples of former Constituent Assembly members, chairpersons, and prime ministers who are now facing corruption charges. Drawing attention to international practices, he noted that ministers and prime ministers in other countries often take moral responsibility and resign when necessary. Questioning the inconsistency in political accountability, he asked, “Why do members of parliament who once demanded the resignation of a Home Minister now cling to their posts when facing similar circumstances as Home Ministers themselves?”
Mr. Prajapati advised those aspiring to become excellent speakers to engage in continuous practice and remain open to criticism and feedback. Sharing an example of the famous Cuban leader Fidel Castro, he noted how, despite over 500 assassination attempts, even Americans were keen to listen to his speeches. “A speaker must know how to grab the audience’s attention – either by learning or by experience,” he said.
Principal of Khwopa Engineering College, Er. Sujan Maka emphasized that effective public speaking extends beyond clarity of expression; it must also have a positive impact on society and the nation. Drawing attention to historical figures like Hitler and Mussolini, he warned that even powerful speakers can mislead if not guided by moral responsibility. “A good speaker can lead society in a positive direction,” he stated, stressing that responsibility and ethical intent are crucial in developing true public speaking skills.
Similarly, Er. Sunil Duwal, Principal of Khwopa College of Engineering, highlighted that the training had significantly boosted participants' confidence and clarity in expression. He emphasized that continuous practice and dedicated study help refine one’s personality. “To be a good speaker, one must also be a good listener,” he noted, expressing his belief that the training would lead to meaningful improvements not only in speaking abilities but also in participants’ overall behavior.
Public Speaking trainer Mr. Sharad Rai delivered a comprehensive presentation covering the historical evolution of public speaking and its practical applications. His session provided valuable insights into the evolution of effective public speaking over time and highlighted essential techniques for enhancing public speaking skills in real-life contexts.
Trainees Er. Suresh Tyata and Ms. Kamal Keshari Thuyaju shared their reflections on the public speaking training, highlighting the confidence they gained and the practical skills they developed. They expressed how the program sparked new ideas, enhanced their presentation techniques, and empowered them to articulate their thoughts more effectively.
Trainee Mr. Punyaram Swangmikha hosted the program. In conclusion, the Chief Guest, Mr. Sunil Prajapati, distributed certificates to the trainees. He presented a token of appreciation to trainer Sharad Rai and Ms. Krishnaswori Duwal, coordinator of Infinity Photo World, expressing sincere gratitude. Participants described the training as highly useful, impactful, and inspiring.
