On June 10, 2025, the Department of Electronics and Computer Engineering (DoECE) at Pulchowk Campus organized a one-day workshop titled “Industry-Academia Dialogue on Exploring Opportunities and Challenges of a 4-Month Internship Program.” The event took place in the DoECE Meeting Hall and included participants from different colleges, companies, and student groups. Khwopa College of Engineering (KhCE) also took part, with Er. Dinesh Gothe, Head of the Department of Computer and Electronics, attending and sharing his academic views.
The event started with registration and a welcome session. Prof. Dr. Ram Krishna Maharjan delivered the opening speech, and Prof. Dr. Subarna Shakya discussed the history and future of engineering education in Nepal. These talks helped explain why internships are now more important than ever for engineering students.
The first panel discussion focused on the benefits of internships. Speakers talked about how internships help students gain real-world experience, build technical and soft skills, and connect with professionals in the field. They also discussed how companies benefit from getting new ideas and possibly hiring skilled students in the future.
The second panel discussion examined the challenges colleges and companies encounter when implementing internship programs. These included aligning academic calendars with internship schedules, ensuring students are prepared for the workplace, establishing fair grading systems, and adhering to laws regarding pay and working conditions. Speakers shared their experiences and offered suggestions on how to address these issues.
Later, the event featured sessions on how to establish a robust internship program. Speakers discussed working closely with industry partners, utilizing various types of internships (such as online or hybrid), and enhancing the evaluation process for internships. The event ended with a Q&A session and closing remarks by the Associate Prof. Dr. Sanjaya Upreti. KHCE’s active participation showed its dedication to preparing students for future careers by linking classroom learning with practical experience.
