The 4th International Conference on the Role of Energy for Sustainable Social Development, RESSD 2025, was successfully held on May 29th and 30th at the Royal Singi Hotel, Kathmandu, Nepal. This event brought together leading researchers, industry professionals, academicians, and students from around the globe to discuss and explore recent advancements in the field of electrical and power engineering.
The conference was organized by the IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) Nepal Chapter, along with Khwopa Engineering College and Khwopa College of Engineering as co-organizers. The collaboration among these institutions helped ensure a high-quality platform for sharing innovative ideas, fostering research partnerships, and encouraging sustainable technological growth.
The conference began with an inspiring speech by Er. Sujan Maka, Principal of Khwopa Engineering College, who attended as the special guest, alongside other dignitaries and the Chief Guest, Hitendra Dev Shakya, Managing Director of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA). Er. Maka emphasized the importance of academic excellence, research, and collaboration in advancing the field of engineering education. In the valedictory session, Prof. Dr. Raju Bhai Tyata, R&D Unit Coordinator at Khwopa College of Engineering, delivered thought-provoking closing remarks that left the audience with a renewed commitment to learning and innovation. The conference featured keynote speeches from renowned national and international experts, as well as technical paper presentations across multiple sessions on topics such as energy systems, smart grids, renewable energy, and emerging technologies. Additionally, the conference provided valuable networking opportunities for scholars, researchers, and professionals.
Faculty members from Khwopa College of Engineering's Electrical Department, including Assistant Lecturer Shreeshuva Maharjan, Teaching Assistants Nischal Shrestha and Rojan Tamang, and Ujjwal Nepal, a 2077 Batch Electrical Engineering student, presented their research at the conference. Rojan Tamang's paper earned the Outstanding Paper Award.
As co-organizers of the conference, Khwopa College of Engineering and Khwopa Engineering College selected eight dedicated volunteers to support the event: Susan Hyongoju (Research Assistant, Electronics Department, Khwopa Engineering College), Prajwol KC, Subhanga Aryal (both 4th-year Electrical students), Achala Thapa, Archisha Singh, Sulav Panthi, Utsav Khatiwada, and Rajun Thapa (all 3rd-year Electrical students from Khwopa College of Engineering). Their active participation was instrumental in the smooth execution of the event, offering them invaluable exposure beyond the academic setting. Through their involvement, the volunteers gained practical experience in event coordination, enhanced their interpersonal and soft skills, and had opportunities to network with industry experts and researchers worldwide. The experience also allowed them to see how academic learning translates into real-world applications. Both colleges played a central role in managing logistics, liaising with delegates, and ensuring the seamless flow of sessions. This hands-on engagement not only built confidence among the students but also prepared them to independently organize similar academic events in the future with greater competence and professionalism.
