The IT Circle of Khwopa College of Engineering (KhCE) recently organized a successful and practical Git & GitHub Workshop on May 28, 2025, reaffirming the college’s dedication to providing students with essential skills for modern software development. This student-led initiative was designed to introduce Bachelor of Computer Engineering (BCT) students from all academic years to the fundamentals of version control, especially in preparation for upcoming hackathons and collaborative projects.
Students learned the basics of Git and GitHub, focusing on vital concepts such as repository setup, making commits, branching, merging, handling pull requests, forking projects, and viewing version history. These skills are crucial for effective teamwork and open-source contributions in today’s software industry.
IT Club coordinator Adarsha Shrestha led the event, with informative presentations by Manee Das Shrestha and Niraj Nath, who broke down each topic in an accessible, beginner-friendly manner. The session was further supported by Crowd Mentors Supriya Poudel, Rohan Singh, and Shailaj Dahal, whose guidance ensured a smooth and interactive learning experience. Additional IT Club members assisted with logistics and technical support, helping participants navigate both the command-line interface and GitHub’s collaborative features.
The workshop began with an overview of version control systems, highlighting the importance of tracking changes and Git’s decentralized approach. Participants practiced creating repositories, making commits, and managing branches using command-line tools. The second half of the session focused on GitHub, where students learned to extend Git’s capabilities to the cloud, enabling remote collaboration and project management. Real-world examples, especially those related to hackathons and team dynamics, were used to make the material relatable and practical.
Facilitators demonstrated best practices for forking repositories, creating pull requests, and resolving merge conflicts, emphasizing how these tools streamline collaboration and open-source contributions. The interactive format encouraged students to ask questions and experiment with workflows they are likely to encounter in future projects.
In her closing remarks, Vice Principal Er. Ratna Shova Prajapati commended the IT Circle for organizing a workshop that not only built technical proficiency but also fostered the collaborative spirit essential for success in the software industry. She highlighted the importance of such initiatives in complementing formal academic learning and preparing students for real-world challenges. Certificates of appreciation and tokens of love were presented to the lead facilitators in recognition of their outstanding contributions.
