The Department of Civil Engineering has successfully concluded the first phase of the Survey Camp for the 2079 batch of Bachelor of Engineering (BE) Civil students. The camp, held from 9th to 12th Baisakh 2082 at Bhotechaur, Sindhupalchowk, forms a core component of the fifth-semester curriculum under the Institute of Engineering.
A total of 87 students actively participated in this four-day field-based training, which is designed to bridge classroom theory with practical surveying experience. The primary objective of the camp was to provide hands-on exposure to a range of surveying methods, the operation of modern instruments, and computational practices essential for future civil engineers.
Under the leadership of Senior Lecturer and Camp Coordinator Er. Ramesh Bala, the camp was organized and executed by a dedicated team of instructors and assistants. The instruction committee included Er. Sunita Kharbuja (Co-coordinator), Raju Miyan, Nischal Prajapati, Aayusha Bhataju, Riya Shrestha, Shrija Guragain, Gaurav Bhusal, Swornim Aganja, Balkrishna Jha, Bhabuk Bhattarai, Nischal Suwal, and lab assistants Jaya Prajapati and Ashmita Awal.
During the camp, students undertook a variety of survey activities such as two peg tests, bridge site surveys, GNSS and UAV surveys, and trial road alignment surveys. They also performed collimation error checks using auto levels, established triangulation points, and conducted detailed site surveys around a proposed bridge location. To ensure comprehensive learning, students were evaluated through viva sessions and instrumentation exercises, reinforcing their theoretical knowledge with practical application.
The Survey Camp is conducted in two phases, with the second phase scheduled to take place at Kharipati, Bhaktapur, from 28th Baisakh to 4th Jestha 2082. This upcoming phase will focus on topographic and road alignment surveying, further enhancing students’ skills in field surveying techniques.
