On 12th Baisakh, 2082, the Department of Mines and Geology (DMG), under the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Supplies, organized the Gorkha Earthquake Memorial and Geological Exhibition 2082 at its Lainchaur, Kathmandu auditorium. The event commemorated the devastating 2015 Gorkha Earthquake and brought together officials, experts, and members of the public to reflect on the disaster and Nepal’s ongoing recovery efforts.
Representing Khwopa College of Engineering, Mr. Nirmal Kafle and Dr. Subeg Man Bijukchhen from Khwopa Engineering College attended the program. The event was inaugurated by Hon. Damodar Bhandari, Minister for Industry, Commerce, and Supplies, and featured several distinguished guests.
The program included technical presentations on earthquake monitoring, recent advancements in geoscience, and sustainable mineral resource management. A geological exhibition displayed rock and mineral samples, educational infographics, and documentaries. These activities highlighted Nepal’s progress in geoscience research and its efforts to build resilience against future geological hazards. Overall, the event served to raise public awareness about earthquake preparedness and the importance of geological hazard mitigation, while also showcasing the country’s commitment to advancing geoscience and disaster risk reduction.
