Khwopa College of Engineering (KhCE), a community-based engineering college affiliated with Tribhuvan University and undertaken by Bhaktapur Municipality, has officially received permanent approval from the Nepal Engineering Council (NEC). The approval comes after the college met the criteria outlined in the Recognition and Monitoring Bylaws for Undergraduate Programs of Engineering Institutions, 2024, and fulfilled the conditions specified in clause 8(2) and clause 9(1) of the same bylaws, as well as rule 15(5) of the Nepal Engineering Council Regulations, 2001.
Since its establishment in 2008, KhCE has been operating under temporary approval, offering programs in Civil, Electrical, and Computer Engineering with annual intakes of 96, 48, and 48 students, respectively. Over the years, the college has made notable progress in faculty development, research and innovation, teaching-learning practices, infrastructure enhancement, community outreach, institutional social responsibility, and student support systems.
As part of the evaluation, the NEC conducted an institutional assessment based on six key criteria, as updated bylaws. KhCE scored an impressive 84.75 out of 100, demonstrating strong performance, particularly in Curriculum Management, Human Resources, and Physical Resources. The detailed scores are as follows:
