The Exit meeting of the Pre-Visit team and the Report Signing Ceremony for the Quality Assurance and Accreditation (QAA) process of Khwopa College of Engineering (KhCE), conducted by the Peer Review Team (PRT) formed by the Educational Quality Assurance and Accreditation Council under the University Grants Commission (UGC), successfully concluded on Wednesday, Baishakh 10, 2082.
The three-day preparatory assessment on Baishakh 8, 9, and 10 marked a significant milestone in KhCE’s journey toward QAA certification. The college, run by Bhaktapur Municipality, hosted the PRT to evaluate its institutional practices, academic standards, infrastructure, and overall readiness for accreditation.
At the exit meeting of the three-day Pre-Visit Assessment, the assessment report prepared by the Peer Review Team (PRT) of the University Grants Commission (UGC) was officially signed. Mr. Sunil Prajapati, Chairman of the College Management Committee and Mayor of Bhaktapur Municipality, and PRT Coordinator Prof. Dr. Jibaraj Pokharel carried out the signing.
During the program, Mr. Prajapati expressed his sincere gratitude to the University Grants Commission for its support and engagement in the Quality Assurance and Accreditation (QAA) process. Quoting, “Praise leads to decline, and criticism leads to improvement,” he emphasized the importance of constructive feedback in driving institutional progress.
He reaffirmed the college's commitment to producing skilled technical human resources who will not only contribute to national development but also be competitive on a global scale. Stressing the vital role of higher education in shaping the country’s future, Mr. Prajapati remarked, “Universities must excel to move the country forward. Let us work together to make our own country a dream country.”
Mr. Prajapati highlighted that Bhaktapur Municipality had declined foreign aid amounting to Rs. 1.2 billion was offered to reconstruct heritage sites following the 2072 BS earthquake. He proudly stated that 193 heritage sites were successfully restored without any foreign assistance, relying instead on the technical expertise provided by the colleges run by Bhaktapur Municipality.
He emphasized that self-reliance is essential for achieving sustainable goals, stating, “We cannot reach our objectives by depending on external help.” His remarks underscored the municipality's commitment to empowering local institutions and utilizing domestic capacity for national development.
During the program, Prof. Dr. Jibaraj Pokharel, Coordinator of the Peer Review Team (PRT) from the University Grants Commission (UGC), presented a summary of the assessment report based on the team’s three-day visit to KhCE.
He highlighted the encouraging research culture that has emerged among KhCE students and faculty. He commended the institution for actively involving its academic community in mini-research projects, doctoral studies, and participation in national and international conferences.
Prof. Dr. Pokharel noted that the college has effectively implemented modern methods and technologies, provided essential academic and support services to students, and maintained both traditional and digital records with commendable efficiency. He recommended that the college formulate a Technical Consultation Policy to guide and enhance its technical services and collaborations moving forward.
Er. Sunil Duwal, Principal of KhCE, expressed his appreciation for the constructive feedback the University Grants Commission (UGC) provided during the three-day assessment. He stated that the suggestions will play a vital role in enhancing the academic and institutional quality of the college. Reaffirming his commitment, he pledged to implement the recommendations to elevate the standard of education at KhCE further.
He also noted that the Commission’s continuous monitoring provides the college with a valuable opportunity to launch additional academic programs in tune with the demands of the modern era. Highlighting the college's growing appeal, Principal Duwal shared that students from 75 districts across Nepal, except for Dhankuta and Manang, have pursued their education at KhCE, and foreign students are also showing increasing interest in joining the institution.
Following this, Mr. Sanjaya Manandhar, Head of Administration, shared important information regarding the report signing schedule and the program itinerary followed by the Peer Review Team during their visit.
The event was attended by several distinguished guests, including Ar. Rajani Joshi, Deputy Mayor of Bhaktapur Municipality and Vice Chairperson of the College Management Committee, as well as Committee Members Mr. Rabindra Jyakhwo, Mr. Yogendra Man Bijukchhe, Mr. Krishna Prasad Koju, and Mr. Hari Prasad Basukala. Representatives from the University Grants Commission, Ms. Nabina Chaulagain and Ms. Hira Shrestha, were also present, alongside other stakeholders.
