Khwopa College of Engineering (KhCE) warmly welcomed the Pre-Visit Team from the Peer Review Team (PRT) assigned by the Educational Quality Assurance and Accreditation Council (EQAAC) under the University Grants Commission (UGC). This team is conducting a preparatory assessment as part of KhCE’s ongoing Quality Assurance and Accreditation (QAA) process.
The official welcome ceremony was held on Monday, Baishakh 8, 2082, marking the beginning of the pre-visit, which continued through Baishakh 8th, 9th, and 10th, 2082. This visit played a crucial role in reviewing the college's preparedness for final accreditation, assessing institutional practices, and providing guidance for further improvement.
During the ceremony, Mr. Sunil Prajapati, Chairman of the College Management Committee and Mayor of Bhaktapur Municipality, welcomed the Pre-Visit Team (PRT) on behalf of the college. In his address, he highlighted that KhCE is one of the pioneer institutions in the country to be operated at the local level. He emphasized that the colleges under the Khwopa Circle belong to the entire community and are a collective asset for the people.
Mr. Prajapati further expressed the college's commitment to producing skilled technicians at affordable rates to meet the challenges of the 21st century. He also stated the institution's dedication to minimizing strikes, reducing public holidays, and ensuring that academic studies, teaching, and programs continue uninterrupted.
During his remarks, Mr. Prajapati expressed concern over Tribhuvan University's policy of not granting permission to affiliated colleges, other than its constituent campuses, to introduce new academic programs. He stated that such a policy is unjustifiable and emphasized that KhCE could achieve even better academic outcomes if given the opportunity to expand its offerings.
Highlighting the broader role of higher education institutions, Mr. Prajapati stressed that universities and colleges should function as centers of research and innovation, rather than merely as certificate-distributing entities that risk contributing to unemployment. He informed the gathering that KhCE has allocated a dedicated budget to promote student entrepreneurship and has coordinated internship opportunities for students within the municipality to support practical learning and skill development.
He further stated, "The college is conducting specialized training to ensure our graduates are prepared to compete globally. With students and professors representing all 77 districts of Nepal, we firmly believe that achieving QAA certification will enhance our ability to serve the nation even more effectively."
During the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Jibaraj Pokharel, Coordinator of the Peer Review Team (PRT) from the University Grants Commission (UGC), remarked that Khwopa College of Engineering has established a commendable academic tradition. He expressed appreciation for the college’s physical infrastructure and academic organization, stating that the architectural design of the campus evokes a sense of pride.
Prof. Dr. Pokharel emphasized that the UGC is committed to supporting higher education institutions in operating with quality and integrity. He acknowledged the collective efforts that have brought about positive changes at the college. Informing that 102 educational institutions nationwide have received QAA certification, he noted that the PRT will engage in in-depth discussions with various stakeholders during the three-day visit. A comprehensive assessment report will be prepared and submitted on the third day of the program.
Er. Sunil Duwal, Principal of Khwopa College of Engineering, highlighted several recent developments undertaken by the college as part of its commitment to quality education and well-being. He stated that, in alignment with its improvement plan, the college has signed an agreement with Khwopa Hospital to provide health check-up facilities for professors, students, and staff.
Additionally, he shared that the college has modernized classrooms by installing smart boards, upgraded the library infrastructure to support a more comfortable environment for study and research, and equipped laboratories with advanced technologies to facilitate practical learning and innovation.
Prof. Dr. Raju Bhai Tyata delivered a brief presentation on the college's Self-Study Report (SSR) outlining key highlights and findings. Following this, Mr. Sanjaya Manandhar, Head of Administration, shared details about the assessment schedule and the overall program itinerary for the Peer Review Team's visit.
