On Sunday, 28th Poush 2081, Khwopa College of Engineering (KhCE) and Khwopa Engineering College (KhEC), in collaboration with the Library Section and Khwopa Literature Circle, successfully hosted a Book Talk featuring renowned author and journalist Sudheer Sharma.
The event focused on two of Sharma’s acclaimed works: "Bhikshu, Byapar ra Bidroha" and "Himalpari ko Huri." The discussion provided a platform for exploring the themes, narratives, and socio-political insights presented in these books, fostering an engaging exchange of ideas between the author and attendees.
Er. Sujan Maka, Principal of Khwopa Engineering College, emphasized the profound significance of Sudheer Sharma’s books for engineering students. He elaborated on how the narratives and socio-political insights presented in the books extend beyond the conventional technical education framework. By bridging the gap between technical knowledge and societal awareness, these works encourage students to view their engineering education through a broader lens—one that integrates their technical expertise with an understanding of societal dynamics, cultural complexities, and the role of innovation in addressing real-world challenges. He further remarked that the books inspire future engineers to think critically about their contributions to society, urging them to design solutions that are not only technically sound but also socially responsible.
Er. Sunil Duwal, Principal of Khwopa College of Engineering, shared his admiration for the books, commending their depth, research, and relevance in the context of Nepal’s societal and political landscape. However, he also proposed incorporating additional details into the narratives to make the works even more comprehensive. He suggested that expanding on certain aspects, such as the historical contexts, regional disparities, and long-term impacts of the issues discussed, would enhance their ability to engage readers and provide a more robust understanding of the themes. By doing so, the books could serve as even more effective tools for inspiring students to think innovatively and critically about societal challenges.
The books were critically reviewed by Aanand Kumar Mishra, Head of the Civil Engineering Department at KhCE, and faculty member Nirmal Kafle, who analyzed their themes and literary significance. Students Ritik Ghimire and Jaydev Tripathi shared their perspectives on how the books broadened their understanding of societal challenges and inspired critical thinking.
Author Sudheer Sharma shared his journey and the inspirations behind his writings, aiming to shed light on pressing societal issues and encourage thoughtful dialogue. He expressed gratitude to the faculty, students, and organizers for their enthusiastic engagement and for creating a platform that connects literature and intellectual discourse.
Jastara Koju, Head of the Library Section, opened the program with a warm welcome and expressed appreciation for the active participation of all attendees. Shreni Dahal also contributed to the event with her insights.
The program also featured creative contributions, with Manav Aryal and Arbin Shrestha with poems and song.
This Book Talk underscored the commitment of KhCE and KhEC to fostering a culture of literary engagement and critical thinking within the academic community. The collaboration with the Khwopa Literature Circle and Library Section highlighted the institutions' dedication to promoting intellectual discourse among students and faculty.
The event was well-received, drawing participants from diverse academic and literary backgrounds, making it a meaningful and enriching experience for all.
