The Civil Engineering Department of a college organized a three-day workshop on "Prestressed Concrete Girder Bridge Design and Analysis" from 18th to 20th Mangsir, 2081. The event was attended by the faculty, teaching assistants, research assistants, and final-year graduate students.
Er. Aanand Kumar Mishra, Head of the Civil Engineering Department, inaugurated the workshop. He emphasized the importance of knowledge in prestressed concrete bridge design. The sessions were led by Er. Sakil Manandhar is an experienced structural engineer with over 14 years in bridge design. On the first day, introduction to design codes, load combinations, and philosophies along with calculations for loads on a 35m span bridge. On the second day, exploration of prestressed concrete bridge types, construction methods, and plotting Influence Line Diagrams along with calculation of stresses and checks per code standards using MS Excel. On the third day, Hands-on design of a prestressed I-girder bridge under expert guidance of Er. Sakil Manandhar. The workshop concluded with a congratulatory speech by Er. Sunil Duwal, Principal of Khwopa College of Engineering. He said that as a part of the academic and professional development of the students and faculties, this kind of training is continuously being conducted by the college.
