The students of Civil Engineering, Batch 080, recently concluded a two-day field visit as part of their Engineering Geology II coursework. The visit was conducted on 25th – 26th Shrawan (AB) and 27th – 28th Shrawan (CD), 2081. This excursion was crucial in fulfilling the academic requirements and providing hands-on experience observing geological hazards and engineering practices in real-world settings.
The field visit was not just a requirement, but a unique opportunity for the students to gain a comprehensive understanding of the practical aspects of Engineering Geology. They had the chance to witness various geological hazards along the roadside and observe the measures taken to prevent and protect against these hazards. The visit to the Budhigandaki Hydroelectric Project's test adit was particularly enlightening, allowing students to explore real-world applications of tunnel construction and support systems.
The hands-on experience of classifying rock masses, analyzing rock slopes, and studying small-scale civil engineering structures along the roadside was invaluable. The students also learned about the details of selecting sites for hydraulic components, which are crucial in the planning and constructing large hydroelectric projects.
