On the 3rd Shrawan 2081, scholarships worth 3 million were awarded to the students of Khwopa College of Engineering. The scholarship distribution ceremony was held at the college, where Mr. Sunil Prajapati, the Chairman of the College Management Committee and Mayor of Bhaktapur Municipality, presented the scholarship to deserving and talented students.
During his speech, Mr. Prajapati highlighted that the colleges run by Bhaktapur Municipality operate as non-profit educational institutions funded by the people's taxes. He urged the students to recognize their responsibility to the nation and society and work diligently to contribute positively to both.
He further explained that Bhaktapur Municipality has established Khwopa College, along with engineering, nursing, civil, and other specialized institutions, to provide affordable and high-quality education to the people of common economic strata. He pointed out that these colleges are currently serving as models of excellence. Mr. Prajapati emphasized that the municipality's investment in education has yielded significant results, contributing to societal and national advancement while fostering a civilized and cultured community. He also mentioned that besides the scholarships from the colleges, the municipality separately provides scholarships to hundreds of students annually, reinforcing its commitment to educational equity and empowerment.
He stated that college scholarships are not an entitlement for students but rather a privilege granted to support their pursuit of higher education. He emphasized that students receiving these scholarships should cultivate a strong sense of service and responsibility.
Similarly, Rabindra Jyakhwa, a member of the college management committee and the Ward Chairperson of Bhaktapur Municipality Ward No. 9, stated that scholarships are awarded to students only after careful evaluation of their academic performance, discipline, family background, and honesty. He highlighted that Bhaktapur Municipality operates these educational institutions to serve people nationwide through the education sector. He also shared that continuous efforts are underway to establish Khwopa University, emphasizing the importance of running the university to develop curricula that meet the needs of both students and the country.
In the program, Er. Sunil Duwal, the Principal of Khwopa College of Engineering, highlighted that the college offers three types of scholarships: excellence in entrance exams, scholarships for needy and talented students, and semester excellence scholarships. He reported that the college allocated nine million for scholarships for the fiscal year 2080/81, with 8.55 million already distributed. Mr. Kaji Bahadur Pancha, the head of the college's account section, also addressed the attendees.
