On 1st Shrawan 2081, Khwopa Engineering College and Khwopa College of Engineering, run by Bhaktapur Municipality, held a ceremony to hand over appointment letters and place newly appointed department and section heads. Mr. Sunil Prajapati, chairman of the college management committee and mayor of Bhaktapur Municipality, attended the event and delivered an insightful speech on the current political landscape and the future of the colleges.
Mr. Prajapati discussed the inefficacies of capitalist democracy, stating that regardless of the ruling party, the welfare of the people is often overlooked. He emphasized the need to amend the Constitution to serve the people better. Reflecting on American and British democracies, he criticized the instability in the current government, citing frequent changes in prime ministers and chief ministers as a major concern. To achieve stability, he proposed a directly elected president, empowering local levels and granting capable local entities the authority to operate universities.
He congratulated the newly appointed heads and stressed that the quality of the college should not be measured solely by its physical infrastructure. Instead, he urged everyone to dedicate themselves wholeheartedly to their responsibilities. Highlighting Bhaktapur's progress towards becoming a center of knowledge and science, with plans for Khwopa University and a medical college, he called for collective emotional investment rather than a bureaucratic approach. Recalling the humble beginnings of Khwopa Higher Secondary School in 2056 B.S. with only a few PhD holders, he noted that significant progress often starts small and gradually expands. He also mentioned Bhaktapur Municipality's policy to establish a research center and promote research activities in coordination with colleges.
Principal Er. Sujan Maka of Khwopa Engineering College addressed the issue of students going abroad for higher education, highlighting the resulting problems in the country's educational sector. He assured that the colleges operated by the municipality are continuously striving to enhance academic quality.
Principal Er. Sunil Duwal of Khwopa College of Engineering emphasized that all college decisions and activities are made through group consensus based on democratic centralism. He noted that assigning responsibilities to departments and branches is a regular process to maintain efficiency and accountability.
Vice Principal Dr. Subegman Bijukchhen of Khwopa Engineering College, Vice Principal Er. Ratna Shova Prajapati of Khwopa College of Engineering, Er. Ramesh Bala and Sanjaya Manandhar congratulated the newly appointed department heads and wished them success.
The newly appointed department heads—Professor Dr. Raju Bhai Tyata, Professor Dr. Chanda Kiran Kawan, Er. Anand Kumar Mishra, Mr. Bhesh Bahadur Thapa, Er. Chandra Krishna Prajapati, and Er. Anil Kasula—expressed their commitment to fulfilling their responsibilities with honesty and dedication.
